Start by yourself
This door is for the person using the computer. A coach is welcome. They are not required. Two installs: a shortcut your hand can find, and four facts that stay in your head.
If the words are already too small, stop this page. Open pinkhouse.tech/listen. Press the page. Come back here later, or ask a helper to do the shortcut step while you listen.
Install 1 — put Listen on this computer
This is the easy click. It is not a program that runs in the background. It is a shortcut to the talking page.
- Download the shortcut: Sight-Listen.url or the zip for a helper: put-listen-on-this-pc.zip
- Put it on the Desktop. Name it Listen if you want.
- Double-click it when you want the trainer. Press the page. It talks.
On a phone: open pinkhouse.tech/listen in Safari or Chrome. Use Add to Home Screen. The icon is the thing your thumb finds later.
If you cannot download a file, tell a helper: “Put pinkhouse.tech/listen on my desktop. Call it Listen.” That sentence is the whole computer install.
Install 2 — the thoughtware
Open the audio trainer. Sit through the parts, or skip with the number keys. You are done with thoughtware when you can do these four without hunting:
- 1. Stop. If Windows is talking in every window: Control, Windows, Enter.
- 2. Find Listen. Desktop shortcut, or type pinkhouse.tech/listen, or the gold bar at the top of Pink House.
- 3. Use this page. Pink button on. Colour if you want black and gold. Sound to hear the page. Same buttons off.
- 4. Leave other windows alone. Mail and Excel stay as they were. If they talk, that is Windows, not the pink button.
You do not have to finish the whole book today. The four facts are the install. The rest is extra.
If you get stuck
- Ask a person to sit for fifteen minutes and use the coach door.
- CNIB, an occupational therapist, a family member, or a friend can be that person. They do not need a Pink House account.
- Do not download a Windows helper named Pink House Sight. If one is already there, take it off: remove page.
